Review of Swimfan (2002) by Jon W — 19 Jan 2008
I've come to understand that there is a difference between "unrealistic" in the "there's a 50 foot monster attacking a city... obviously, it's not realistic" sense and "unrealistic" in the "flawed design" sense.
And while I don't require the plot to be realistic, devices such as a cop sitting next to a prisoner giving her easy access to his gun and other "unrealistic" events indicate that the writers were simply not clever enough to create a more believable scenario.
That was the major flaw in this film that I had a tough time seeing past. There is, however, one redeeming feature in spite of all this: Madison Bell is the creepiest character I think I have ever encountered in film.
Even more so than Hannibal Lecter. As an integral element in the plot, I thought she pulled it off extremely well so this film gets due credit for that.
