Review of Swept from the Sea (1998) by Sylvia G — 15 May 2008
I can't figure out how Vincent Perez, a hottie hotterton, picks the movies he plays in. It seems like he'd be the French equivilent of a Ralph Fiennes, but he just doesn't know how to pick them!
I bought this movie thinking it'd be right up my alley, and there were good things about it (beautifully shot southwestern English coast line, a promising beginning to their blossoming romance) , but I didn't like it that much.
Maybe it was the complete miscasting of Rachel Weisz. As another Flickster member commented, Vincent Perez did sound like Borat. What a contrived accent! I didn't appreciate the lack of dialogue between the lead characters. I like romantic musings, what can I say?
Also, I coudn't figure out why they'd put up with such unwarranted hostility from their village for so long; seeing as how this was a novel, maybe I just didn't like the storyline, not the movie itself.
For whatever reasons, I was overall disappointed.
