Review of Swept Away (2002) by Craig M — 18 Dec 2006
SCREW THE CRITICS!
This film definitely had its moments, both good and bad. It had some truly laugh-out-loud moments, and some touching. Madonna isn't horrible in it, she's believable and gives one of her best performances. Okay, she's not Meryl Streep but if it was anyone else but Madonna I don't think Swept Away wouldn't have been so heavily critcised.
The cinematography was beautiful with the shots of the ocean, the storyline was mediocre and the ending was what made the whole film for me. The only thing that annoyed me was that Swept Away has as many mood swings as a hormonal teenager. The first half (on the boat) was comedy and then when Madonna and Adriano Giannini got stranded on the island it suddenly turned into a romantic drama, with a little musical number in between!
I don't have a clue why this movie was torn apart, I've seen much worse.
