Review of Swept Away (2002) by Alfonso D — 22 Jul 2011
Once upon a time a critic said Madonna sucks as an actress. And that became an expression people still use without being exposed to her work. Yes, she has done bad movies, but did not she win the Golden Globe for Evita? In Swept Away, we see her going to a place that just a few divas dare to go: a physically challenging role, a though statement about social stratification, and the chance to bring a fresh version of a grand movie from decades ago.
People should just go and see a movie instead of paying attention to critics. They seem to have the right words but absolutely no regard to who they are writing for.
