Review of Swelter (2014) by Al S — 22 Aug 2014
It's a smoldering and explosive crime-thriller. It's stylish, gritty and sizzling film that's packed with action and character development. It's A History of Violence meets Reservoir Dogs with the gritty edge of an old-school western much like Unforgiven or High Plains Drifter.
A brutal, smart, heart-pounding and compelling action-packed film. Director, Keith Parmer crafts a edgy, rich-in-character and exciting drama that shines with a good script and great performances. The cast is brilliant.
Lennie James is excellent. Grant Bowler is fantastic. Catalina Sandino Moreno is wonderful. Jean-Claude Van Damme is terrific. Its one of his better performances and characters, he's clearly not an action figure but a man who has done his time and just wants to move on and make a life, Van Damme is rather fine in this more dramatically motivated performance.
I love how a lot of the characters are written and what motivates them. An excellent movie.
