Review of Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song (1971) by Bass 9 — 22 Aug 2009
Visually is horrible, ugly cinematography and just there's just a bunch of unwanted repetitions, but what makes this movie a classic is the idea of a man from the community (if you know what I mean) the hero and the guy who makes it. Portraying the reality of the 70's with a very, very low budget we follow and crave for a character who wants to get away with murder because he saved one of his own people.
An unforgettable opening scene, this film shows all the Tarantino shots, the Spike Lee's characters and the first film to create the genre of "Blaxpoitation".
