Review of Sweet Sixteen (2002) by Michael M — 07 Nov 2007
Bleak, depressing but with a gritty realism only Ken Loach can do. We follow a young teenager's actions in a Scottish town devoid of opportunities and riddled in drug crime. As we follow his every move in trying to do the right thing circumstances conspire and make it impossible for him to avoid the inevitable pitfalls of a life of crime.
With somebody so young and with their whole life ahead of him we desperately hope he succeeds in avoiding a life of crime that will lead ultimatelty to nowhere. Another great, british film and a strong lead performance from Martin Compston.
