Review of Sweet Sixteen (2002) by Haley B — 20 Jan 2008
Ken Loach does it yet again. Loach is such an important filmmaker in this day and age. As a social realist, he makes films about real people facing real decisions, and that is what Sweet Sixteen is all about.
The acting was very well done; the fact that Ken Loach is very specific and picky when it comes to casting is extremely important in turning a good film into a great film. The story was a bit rough, but it was real, and that's what's important.
It was compelling and dramatic, and you were really pulled into the character's life by his actions and motives. I absolutely love Ken Loach, and I really hope he continues to make movies until he drops, because his movies are so important and really show us the times we are living in.
This is a great film.
