Review of Sweet Sixteen (2002) by Brandon S — 17 Feb 2010
Scottish coming of age tale on the wrong side of the tracks from Ken Loach. Featuring a superb performance from Martin Compston who is fifteen and is out to make money anyway he can to provide his mother somewhere to live once she is released from prison.
The film starts out with the feeling that things might change for the hero, but as time moves on the protagonist never stops digging a hole for himself that you know he won't be able to get out of.
Uberrealistic with the locales and the dialogue is in English but the accents are tough to decipher so subtitles are provided.
