Review of Sweet Movie (1974) by Chip B — 28 Aug 2008
What the heck was this movie!? This is one of the strangest films I've ever seen! It starts out with this weird virginity contest where this weird gynecologist checks the uterus of all these different women to see who the best virgin is and he picks Miss Canada.
Then she gets married to some rich dude with a golden penis and she freaks out when she sees his golden penis and she doesn't love him anymore. Then she gets attacked by this really muscular black guy who takes her to some room inside of a milk tower and they do some sex stuff before he karate chops her and sends her to France she then has sex with some Mexican dude and he gets stuck inside of her.
After he gets out she recuperates to some commune filled with a bunch of weirdos who have this strange banquet and then they start rubbing food on each other and then they actually start puking on each other and the actors are puking for real.
Then they start pissing on each other and pissing in each other's mouths and they start shitting all over the place and there's this guy who acts like a baby and rolls around puking and pissing everywhere.
I don't want to ruin the rest of the movie, but I will mention these scenes are intertwined with scenes of a boat with Karl Marx's face on the front of it and that the woman who occupies this boat is a vicious child-killer who lures little boys on to her boat so that she can abuse and kill them.
There's a particularly disturbing scene where she disembowels a man while they are in a vat of sugar and she makes the sugar get all sticky and gross and it is really nasty. These scenes are juxtaposed with archive footage of mutilated corpses and dead bodies.
This is an extreme film. It is quite funny and quite disturbing. Overall, it was worth watching because of how outlandish the behavior in it was. However, I never want to watch it again. It was really quite grotesque.
