Review of Sweet Land (2005) by Max W — 12 Jul 2008
I won't really stray from what most reviewers have said about this film, it is sweet, old-fashioned and romantic. It's a quiet film that manages to pack quite a punch in the end. As sappy as it may sound, it does show the power of love and determination.
Perhaps the only drawback of this film is that none of the Norweigan was really Norweigan...in fact a lot of the time it was simply gibberish with a few authentic words thrown in occasionally. While others have pointed out that this didn't matter, that what was important was the emotion conveyed (which was spot on btw), it was a distraction after the fact.
In the end, this award-winning film is really something quite special. It makes me want to hope that perhaps someday, I'll be able to find my own Olaf to my Inge.
