Review of Sweet Land (2005) by Daryl R — 20 Jan 2010
In the late '20s, a lovely German woman arrives in Minnesota for an arranged marriage. Prejudice abounds after the First World War, and even language keeps them apart. It's a familiar bonding story, and the storytelling could be more concise.
Still, Mr. Selim's direction is as firm and understated as its Midwestern milieu.
