Review of Sweet Charity (1969) by J C — 16 Oct 2007
A cute movie. Not perfect, but definitely worth while as a musical. I'm still singing "Hey big spender.".
The colours and costuming for the dance hall sequences were amazing, and definitely foreshadow Cabaret. Also, the nightclub part was awesome. OH to have lived in the sixties! Shirley Maclaine was picture perfect as the title role.
I was surprised how close it was to the story of the Nights of Cabiria. It never really deviated from the original story until the third act. Sweet Charity is a lot happier and not as magical as Fellini's film, but it's a worthy remake. All of the dance sequences are really worth watching because that's where Fosse has the most fun.
