Review of Sweet and Lowdown (1999) by Harry R — 11 Jun 2007
This is the last arguably great movie Woody Allen made. There's an argument that can be made that Woody struggled with the ramifications of his own behavoir in his post-Mia phase. Celebrity, Deconstructing Harry and Bullets Over Broadway are all filled with an inordinate amount of self loathing that oozes off the screen.
But this one nails that feeling of artistic impotence so well.
