Review of Sweet and Lowdown (1999) by Jose P — 30 Oct 2007
My favorite of Woody Allen's films, and I could never figure out why. It's not nearly as funny as Annie Hall or Love And Death, nor is it as insightful as Hannah And Her Sisters or Crimes and Misdemeanors, but perhaps it just manages to find the perfect middle ground between the two.
It's an acting tour-de-force with Penn and Morton leading the way, and the stories work very well given how ridiculous the subject matter is.
