Review of Sweet and Lowdown (1999) by Courtney B — 14 Jan 2009
Hysterically funny. sean penn gives a nuanced and charming performance. samantha morton relies on her physicality (she has no lines) to communicate deep and powerful emotion. the weird docu-talking heads stuff didn't serve the movie all that well as it interrupted rather than enhanced the story being told.
