Review of Sweet and Lowdown (1999) by Mack E — 17 Jan 2008
Woody returns to comedy, and mostly leaves himself out of it. It's bust-a-gut funny at points, but then turns around and breaks your heart right at the end. Samantha Morton is reason enough to see any film she's in, and here she manages to steal the spotlight from Sean Penn without saying a word.
Even if you hate the man, like I do, you must see this film. It's brilliant.
