Review of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) by Darren C — 05 Feb 2013
When I heard that Burton was making Sweeney Todd, I thought "that sounds about right". Naturally my second thought was "Is Johnny Depp going to be Todd?" And of course, he is. And he is an awesome one at that.
In fact, nearly everyone is perfect for their roles. A very challenging musical to start with, along with Depp and Bonham-Carter not being trained singers, and yet it all works very well. If you can't handle a fair amount of throat slashing and fake blood, stay away.
But if you can, you are in for a treat.
