Before the 2012 Les Miserables pained our ears and eyes, there was Sweeney Todd, the musical done right. Utilizing a similar cast (minus the terrible Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hatheway), Sweeney Todd is a perfectly executed, smoothly filmed masterpiece that effectively mixed horror, drama and revenge into a film that is as pleasing to watch as it is to listen to.
This is truly the pinnacle of modern musical films.
