Review of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) by Matija G — 21 Feb 2015
Stephen Sondheim's beautiful music mixed with Tim Burton's dark artistic flavor and with Helena Bonham Carter yet again playing the evil/weird sidekick... this is a dream come true!!! Sweeney Todd is a very well done musical movie with much darker tone than the musical.
But it really fits the story well. Though I would have picked someone a little more musical potential than johnny depp to play the role, he really brings the madness of the character out. Though it got a little slow at parts, it all paid off in those really intense and satisfying 20 minutes at the end.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable new take on Sondheim's weird, crazy, and tragic story.
