Review of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) by Edgar C — 26 Dec 2012
Burton redeems himself with another surprisingly, multitalented masterpiece adapted from an unusually marvellous play. The soundtrack is not as good as the original source, and some stylish elements of the play are replaced with Burton's ingeniously menacing direction. Nevertheless, the final result is a macabre feast for the soul, creating a contradiction(?)-in-terms in the process: a Gothic, gory musical with a striking leading performance and a magically evil Bonham Carter.
82/100.
