Review of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (1982) by Brett B — 01 May 2008
It's important to note that this isn't really a film, per se, as it is more of an archival recording of the stage production. The main problems with this production are related to that. It's fine for there to be a 35-year-old playing a 10-year-old in a play, but, in a movie, it's distracting.
So, I rate this based on what it is, an archival recording. As that, it's more than adequate. The singing and acting and simple sets are all fun. The main thing I really don't like is some of the music.
While I love most of it, there is one song in particular that stands out as just annoying. The song is either called or should be called "Kiss me" and it's pretty much just nonsense and you can't understand any one person as there are, at times, four people singing their own songs at once.
Overall, this is fine.
