Review of Swearnet: The Movie (2014) by Josh T — 22 Aug 2015
What can I say? I'm a SwearNet subscriber. That makes me a fanboy. Doesn't change the fact that this film was a chore to watch. It went hand in hand with the rekindling of the Trailer Park Boys franchise, which honestly so far has been pretty disappointing.
Ultimately SwearNet is a poorly organized/managed startup network run by fellow stoners, in dire need of some decent writers and funding, so most content tends to be promotional, such as this feature length commercial.
That's basically what SwearNet the Movie is. I'm still giving it 2 stars though because in the long run, we fans don't generally care how they're packaged, as long as we get more Trailer Park Boys.
But it strikes me as kind of sad that Carrot Top and Tom Green tended to deliver the more memorable performances here. Kind of puts everyone's comparative acting chops in perspective, doesn't it? Hopefully at some point the boys will get some writers that can regularly pull rabbits out of their hats as did Mike Clattenburg, the creator/director of the show, and his crew, back in the 90s.
As it stands, it just feels like over at SwearNet there are three entrepreneurial actors trying to be ambitious. Doesn't make for riveting entertainment. Not yet anyway.
