Review of Swamp Thing (1982) by Mark D — 07 Oct 2009
Campy to the point of being ridiculous, Swamp Thing is a very strange film that seems to have been designed purely as a guilty pleasure. There's a strange sense of charm that emerges amidst the terrible special effects, and the dialogue is SO cheesy that it almost seems like a bad joke, but somehow, the combination of Adrienne Barbeau and Louis Jourdan keep this film barely afloat.
Also, there are a few scenes of genuine emotionality which give this film some credibility, especially with the character of Swamp Thing himself. Unfortunately the climax at the end is silly and unimpressive, but then again.
..it's a film about Swamp Thing. You have to expect this sort of thing...
