Review of Suspiria (1977) by Kate H — 20 Aug 2011
And this is the part where I'm going to get flayed alive by fellow horror fans. I really wasn't a huge fan of this. The opening kill was spectacular, the mood was unsettling, and the score was annoying and unsettling, but other than that there really wasn't all that much here for me.
Pretty dancer comes to ballet school in Europe. The previous occupant of her room gets killed. Then she gets sick by looking into a prism. Maggots fall from ceiling. Roomate gets killed and then, somehow, we end up with witches doing...doing what exactly? General mayhem? I don't know.
Like I said with Insidious. It takes more than pretty visuals to make a film work - and I actually enjoyed Insidious more than this.
*hides from people waiting to stone her*.
