Review of Suspiria (1977) by Rosco B — 31 Mar 2013
"Susie, do you know anything about witches?".
3.5.
Being completely honest, Suspiria is overrated. I felt quite let down after watching it. Before watching it, I heard the film is bizzare & gory but beautiful, it is definitely that, so I'll give it props for that. Suspiria has one of the best scores I have ever heard, it's actually fantatsic, and has great camera work and I liked how the glossy candy colors were used. People say that the starting scene is the scariest part, I disagree, I feel like the ending was the strongest point of the film, and the only part where I felt somewhat spooked. From all that I have said I'll say why I was let down watching Suspiria. The film has a bit of a cheesy feel to it acting wise. I felt like it dragged at times. The film suffers from some bad dialogue moments aswell. I know that this film was supposed to be art, and from that perspective it is a masterpiece, but I just wasn't completely feeling the film, I was just watching all the flaws come in left right and centre.Suspiria is in my opinion overrated, I don't think it deserves the praise it gets from its style. Though the style is undeniably fantastic, I find it hard to overlook all the flaws I spotted. I liked Suspiria don't get me wrong, but I was disappointed.
