Review of Suspect Zero (2004) by Keith H — 01 Sep 2004
Well, I went out and saw Elias Merhige's Suspect Zero starring Aaron Eckhart, Ben Kingsley and Carrie Anne Moss. Merhige's previous effort was Shadow of the Vampire, which I have not seen and may take me awhile to view because Suspect Zero just plain BLOWS!!!.
This was easily one of the worst films I have seen in a long time. It's a thriller akin to Seven or The Usual Suspects but as the narrative spirals and spirals, I just didn't care anymore.
Eckhart plays an FBI agent who's negligence causes him to be demoted to a lower division somewhere in the sticks. While investigating a murder, he realizes the killer is specifically targeting him. Is the killer playing mind games with Eckhart or is he trying to tell him something? I can answer this question with a WHO GIVES A CRAP CUZ THIS MOVIE BLOWS!!!!!.
The acting was subpar despite Kingsley presence and the dialogue is painfully awkward, notably Eckhart's superior. Carrie-Anne Moss was a complete waste of a character. She is not needed at all and one only needs to see the ridiculous scene where Eckhart shows up at her apartment for what seemed to be a booty call.
More annoyingly is Merhige's self-indulgence. He tries way too hard with his camera tricks; paying tribute to cinematic techniques of the past but it just does not work in this film because it BLOWS!!!!!!!!!.
I cannot believe this film played at the Princess. It belongs in the straight to video category next to the latest Shannon Tweed feature.
I'm done venting, do yourself a favour and watch this film so you can hate it as much as I do.
