Review of Survivor (2015) by Nolan P — 28 Sep 2015
This movie is much better than I expected and much better than most reviews would suggest.
This appears to be a modern version of something like The 39 Steps -- it is a movie where the lone hero is chased by everyone else including the one really bad villain.
I have to believe that all the negative reviews of the movie are based not on the movie itself but upon having incorrect expectations and then not having those met.
The movie is not a soul searcher. It is not a deep psychological thriller. It is what it is: A murder/chase film. And it works very well.
If you notice many of the reviews talk about plot holes, but never describe what those are. That is because there aren't any. The characters are sufficiently fleshed out to meet the requirements of this film. Complaints to the contrary must be based on wanting Brosnan to be James Bond all over again or something like that. He is not. He is a brutal, psychopathic killer. He is the monster that Mila must run from. And while that sort of role does not require much depth, Brosnan is more than adequate to it. No complaints at all, he pulls it off.
Mila also merely has to convey anxiety, terror, fear, tension, and courage. She also does this very well.
Just sit back, ignore that it is not James Bond and if you like the tension of a chase movie that does not mainly involve cars, you will like this film.
