Review of Surviving the Game (1994) by Steve W — 17 Sep 2010
This movie definitely works as one of those brainless action flicks you watch on a weekend night with booze and buddies. A homeless man is lured into the forest with the intent of a job, but is instead hunted for human sport.
Ice T is not a very effective action hero. He has very little charisma or star power, but does a good enough job. What really shines are the villains. You get the guy who played Salieri from Amadeus, soft spoken Charles S. Dutton, John C. McGinley (Scrubs), Gary Busey, and Rutger Hauer as sick hunters with a penchant for killing their fellow man. They really ham up their performances as rednecks and gun toting baddies, out to kill the main guy.
Entertaining and full of action, but one of those movies that's so bad that it's good, using the excuse "from the 90's" to it's fullest extent.
