Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Sean H — 31 May 2010
It's sad that Romero's sixth zombie film seems to look like Uncle George is running out of steam. There's some semblance of a plot involving a rivalry between two island clans as to whether the walking dead should be killed or rehabilitated (see also: "Fido"), but I found myself not really giving a damn.
As the title suggests, this is more about the plight of the modern zombie (like, do they have civil rights and stuff?) than it is about survival horror, the cornerstone of every good zombie movie. Romero packs social commentary into all his films, but this was just a little too awkward.
More zombies please. And more gore. (Minor quibble: Since when does the living dead include humans who have died from something other than a zombie bite?).
