Review of Survival of the Dead (2010) by Shane D — 27 Sep 2010
Like most people, Iâ??m a lover of George Romeroâ??s classic Zombie flicks. Like some, I watched with interest as he made his return to the genre. With each comeback film, Romero went from being welcomeâ?¦to being a tad played out.
Weirdly enough, I kind of still had high hopes for this effort but ultimately, I was left a little cold and lifelessâ?¦pun intended. I liked the change of setting, revolving around a clan turf war, that was novel.
I can even excuse the ridiculous acting or lack thereof. But first and foremost this is a zombie movie, and in zombie movies (especially Romero ones) you are meant to laugh, be shocked and feel sick at the same time.
There needed to be more over the top killing and biting, and there needed to be way more of the stupid and gruesome. For what it was, it was relatively lame. With exception of a couple of moments, typically speaking, this was disappointing.
