Review of Surveillance (2008) by Mark P — 23 Jul 2009
The acting is quite excellent, especially Bill Pullman. Everything else is derivative, uninspired awfulness. I've loved everything her dad's made, but after this and her other disaster of a film, Jennifer Lynch probably shouldn't be let near a camera again.
It is not that the film is poorly made, its just she has no sense of the thematic elements of film narrative; its pacing, tone, and style are all over the place, and not in an ironic or otherwise motivated way.
