Review of Surveillance (2008) by Shawn W — 26 Nov 2009
A twitchy Bill Pullman gives away the "twist" in the plot from the first moment he appears on screen. However, his performance is the best thing about "Surveillance", which serves best as a reminder to filmmakers to check the cogency of their plots before, say, setting pen to paper.
The checklist should go like this:
1. Is my premise believable? Do single FBI agents really conduct three simultaneous interviews via surveillance camera?
2. Are my characters believable? Do people really say things like "I'm really having a bad time" while they're getting shot?
3. Have I given too much away? Am I telling my actors to *look* suspicious before I reveal their true identities?
4. Have I made anyone give a fuck what happens next?
