Review of Surveillance (2008) by Lisa H — 04 Feb 2010
Let daddy do the directing I say! This was a very poor film. Full of cliches and things that have been seen a hundred times before. A twist that isn't actually a twist because it is so obvious. There is also some pretty terrible acting to boot.
Jennifer Lynch is clearly trying too copy her father and it is painfully obvious she does not have his talent! The first 45 minutes of the film are basically pointless because it doesn't really tell you anything other than what the witnesses happened to have been doing before the killings.
The things that particularly frustrated me were the over the top idiot policemen, the standard policemen oh so hate the FBI crap, and the idea of Bill Pullman being a psychopath which just makes me laugh! At no point was it at all a dark comedy which some people seem to claim it is, because it has to be mildly humorous to be in that catergory.
The only real positive points are that it was well shot and the scenery/landscape was perfect for the film. Oh and another positive, if Jennifer Lynch does direct another film it has to be better than this one!
