Review of Surf's Up (2007) by David B — 14 May 2012
Not a comedy tsunami, just consistent ripples of laughs and good vibes. A charming computer cartoon, lifted by Bridges' Lebowski-like performance and a truly funny mockumentary framework. The rest of the cast were great too.
The plot is actuall quite good and even though it has, once again, talking animals in it, it does something new but making it a mockumentary and sometimes it works...sometimes it tires, with the shaky camera but the visuals are great, the best being the water and surfing scenes that look really realistic.
Sure, the animators tried something new but it wasn't really that funny and some of the gags were hit-and-miss but felt like more misses than hits. It's easy to say this is better than most animations out there but there are loads of ones better as well.
Kids may like this but seemed to be aiming for teens to adults than kids, still it's a good family film but don't we blown away, it's just a better than average film...in my opinion anyway.
