Review of Surf Ninjas (1993) by ? Nate Aka P — 23 Mar 2009

"Surf Ninjas" is a fun adventure/family/comedy about a California surfer named Johnny, (Ernie Reyes Jr.) who finds out that he and his little brother Adam has a royal past. Now, Johnny has to leave all of his surfing, high-school years behind and learn to battle against well trained ninja assassins. The only way for Johnny to find that one special thing inside of himself, is through a local ninja named Zatch, (Ernie Reyes Sr.) who use to look after and protect Johnny and Adam when they were kids. After, Zatch tells Johnny and Adam that their father died by vicious Colonel Chi, (Leslie Nielsen) they want to get revenge. On their journey Johnny finds a beautiful princess named Ro-May, (Kelly Hu) and marries her. Johnny has his princess and all he has to do now is to defeat his father's killer with the help from Adam, his stupid buddy Iggy, (Rob Schneider) and Zatch, so he can take the throne at his birth place as king.

This family comedy is strictly for kids because the martial arts battle sequences are bloodless and fun to watch. The sequences were pretty violent, but not enough to take childrens eyes off of this. The plot is good, but not great. The actors are decent. The main reason that this is a comedy is all because of (Rob Schneider). He just got too carried away. I really don't know who was the best actor. I guess i'd say the hot and sexy(Kelly Hu) because she was so fine and took her role seriously. This is the first time ive seen (Leslie Nielsen) actally trying to have a serious role. This is just one of those family films that you can sit back and enjoy, not to take it seriously.

I recommend this to martial arts action and family/comedy fans.
