Review of Support Your Local Sheriff! (1969) by Allan C — 13 Sep 2014
Very entertaining and enjoyable Burt Kennedy directed western comedy about a small town being overrun by no-good cowboys, so they hire stranger James Garner clean up the town. With a jain with no bars, Garner takes on the town baddies, including Walter Brennan and Bruce Dern.
By the late 60s, westerns were pretty played out and most of the memorable westerns of this time were either comedies like this or "Cat Ballou" or were grittier revisionist westerns like "The Wild Bunch" or "Lonely are the Brave".
This film is probably my favorite western comedy of the time and is a must see for fans of the sub genre and/or Garner. Joan Hackett, Jack Elam, Harry Morgan and Henry Jones also appear in the film.
