Review of Supernova (2000) by Mandy Denise Nix — 25 Jul 2009
I knew this movie was not going to be a masterpiece because I had read how the director wanted to be called Alan Smithee. Instead Walter Hill called himself Thomas Lee. I mean to be fair the film is not horrificly bad by any means.
The budget is there and the movie is not boring. Of course it only runs 83-84 minutes without the credits. The main problem is that the film suffers from is originality. That and the villian is bad and the actors do not have really amazing death scenes.
It however is a big budget sci fi movie nonetheless which makes it stand above some other movies. Other than that and a notable cast it sadly could have been or atleast tried to be something else. That and there are many deleted scenes on the DVD.
I feel that either the film had many problems or the idea that you cannot always create something good also might be the case. Overall, it is up to you there are plenty of reasons to not see but also you can just watch it for fun escapist sci fi action.
