Review of Superman vs. The Elite (2012) by Aaron C — 04 Sep 2012
Superman is a tough sell. He can do anything, fight anything, say anything and nobody calls him on it cause he's fucking Superman. So where's the conflict? Ah, that's where this animation - inspired from the creative minds behind "What's so Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" - gets it completely right.
The so called Elite descend upon the world in a sweeping fashion and help Supes clear up some catastrophes around the world before believing their own press and policing the world. Of course, Big Blue isn't gonna stand for it but it's not exactly a popular idea.
These Elite seem to get results where Superman fails. They kill criminals. So it naturally brings these two superpowers to a conflict. That's what is so fresh about Superman vs. the Elite. The Man of Steel's ideology is under attack, not him, and that's a battle he fears he may one day lose.
