Review of Superman vs. The Elite (2012) by The Critic ( — 29 Jun 2012
An incredibly well-written film, based on the story "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?" (published 2001), that introduces some fascinating characters in Manchester Black (Robin Atkin Downes) and Menagerie (Melissa Disney).
Placing Superman (a fine George Newbern) in the midst of contemporary issues (a war in the Middle East) hasn't always worked for the superhero, but this pic successfully handles such subject matter, as well as questioning the relevance of Superman's old fashioned morals in today's world.
The impact, however, is watered down by the style of animation, which would've suited lighter material.
