If this were anything besides a Superman movie, I would scoff at the special effects, because they are definitely... well, to put it nicely, a bit of a throwback. But because it IS a Superman movie, that actually lends to its appeal.
The cast is spot-on, with the possible exception of Kate Bosworth, who I just couldn't seem to get into as Lois Lane. The plot is entertaining and as a whole I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to.
