Review of Superman Returns (2006) by Dc F — 15 May 2013
I have to say I love this film. This film works perfectly not only as a homage toward Richard Donner's Superman, but also as a direct sequel toward that film and the amazing Superman II, forgetting the two lackluster Superman films that followed: Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.
The film plays out in the same fashion as Richard Donner's Superman. The opening credits are followed by John Williams's well known theme, the film is slow, focusing at times on character development and relationships, while Lex Luthor is still interested in land development.
The film is thus in a result great. The cast is terrific. Brandon Routh is a worthy replacement of Christopher Reeve, at times resembling him terrifically. Kate Bosworth excells as Lois Lane, while Kevin Spacey gives a great turn as the villainous Lex Luthor.
In the end the film has everything that you want from a Superman film: humor, action and sadness.
