Review of Superman Returns (2006) by Dan F — 02 Aug 2015
Perhaps out of time, Superman returns offers a nostalgic conclusion to the first two Richard Donner Superman films. Overwriting the parodic nature of 3 & 4, Routh emulates Reeves but grounds his slapstick goofball Clark Kent routine.
Spacey is superb as Lex Luthor; but there's little more that another real estate scheme can add to the series. It's a beautiful film to look at, but it's not the Superman that the post-Batman Begins world needs.
Too many buts, I suppose.
