Review of Superman Returns (2006) by Keith M — 26 Jun 2013
While not a great movie, this installment is much better than the new "Man of Steel" debacle. They make for an interesting comparison. Whereas Superman Returns was probably doomed from the beginning with an idiotic story concept, it was salvaged (to some degree) by much better directing, believable special effects, and even acting.
"The new "Man of Steel" actually has much better story concepts (maybe too many), but was trampled by terrible directing, over-wrought and nonsensical special effects, and forgettable performances.
After seeing the latest installment, I would have much preferred to see where Brain Singer wanted to go with this version of the franchise--although they probably would have to kill off Lois' Kid which is probably too sharp of an edge for a Superman film.
