Review of Superman Returns (2006) by Buggy B — 05 Feb 2014
I liked this a lot however if I hadn't gone into it as such a fan of the original (2) Christopher Reeve movies I don't think it would have left much of an impression. This felt more like an homage to those movies than a real continuation of the franchise including using the original score from John Williams (which I've had stuck in my head for days now) and rebooted Marlon Brando voice overs. Bradon Routh emulates Reeve perfectly though and CGI has caught up with how this was meant to be seen. All his flying scenes and in particular the rescue of the jet/spaceshuttle are excellent. The scene with the bullet to his eye is also amazing. Kate Bosworth is pretty terrible as Louis Lane; flat, boring with zero chemistry and missing any of the fun banter/highjinx I expected from her character. The story itself was ok, comic book standard. I did enjoy the addition of Superman's son but it could have done with a love scene not just unrequited romance 01.31.14.
"the man of steel has been missing in action for five years, but upon his reappearance in Metropolis he discovers that he is needed more than ever.".
