After years Superman returns to the big screen in "Superman Returns''. Overall its sadly a boring sappy and lame modern take on Superman. Nothing new or fresh is explored. It gets credit for trying to reference the original film but it feels out of place.
The positives: Its got great cinematography. Kevin Spacey is great as Luther and reminds me of Hackman. I mean he's really great it was surprising. Its got some stunning visuals and scenes.
The bad: Brandon Routh is possibly the worst actor to play the man of steel. Its not that he was a bad actor, he just didn't fit the role, nor did he look like Superman. The film's plot is rather boring. Superman doesn't do much and his powers are badly portrayed. Also, everyone is ignorant. People look right at Clark and right at Superman and don't recognize him. This totally works in the original films but it cannot for a modern take on Superman. Props to Amy Adams's Lois Lane for actually being intelligent.
In the end its centered around Clark and Lois, making it more of a romance than a Superman film. Stunning visuals, Kevin Spacey, and great cinematography aren't enough to win you over. Its simply not impressive, not inspiring or grand, and not the modern Superman we need. Man of Steel was a better film than this with the best modern take on Sups.
