Review of Superman Returns (2006) by Charlie 7 — 10 Apr 2016
Disappointing. This rebooted sequel to Richard Donner's classic is by no means a bad film but its by no means a great film either. I will give Brian Singer credit for trying but the problem is that there isn't really any sense of fun, action, or excitement in the film.
It's very gloomy and downbeat and doesn't lift your spirits at all. The tone was most likely changed to suit a more realistic feel to appeal to a new generation but it should've been aimed for young teenagers and new comers who were going to see it.
Even Superman 3 does a better job then that. Jus watch Christopher Reeve's put on the suit and that will put a smile on anyone's face. I appreciate what the X-Men director was trying to do but unfortunately the film lacks a lot of luster.
