Review of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) by Matthew C — 18 Jun 2010

I'd heard for years that this movie was unwatchably bad, but to tell the truth, I thought it was a major step up from Superman III. Not to say it's good, but at least it's cohesive for the most part and focuses on Superman and not some random character played by a popular comedian.

The message is exceptionally heavy handed and so very 80s. Oddly, I'd actually say this is the best performance of Gene Hackman in this series. Yes, Nuclear Man is extremely goofy. But more so than Ned Beatty or Richard Pryor? Nope.

Not a good movie, but I'd say better than Superman III in many ways.
