Review of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) by Shane D — 29 Jun 2011

When I was 6 years old, I would pretend to be sick so I could stay up past my bedtime to watch Superman or Superman II whenever it was on television. When I was about 8, I would often borrow the Superman IV picture book from the local public library, looking upon its images of Superman battling Nuclear Man on the moon as if they were the most glorious and exciting images one could ever imagine.

What forgiveness youth provides...whilst Superman I and II still are quite good even though the special effects are heavily outdated, this fourth effort is extremely unfortunate. Reeve is still brilliant as Kent, albeit getting a little old, but everything else just seems odd.

For whatever reason, it was decided that Lane would spend the whole movie not knowing Superman and Clark were one and the same and the inclusion of Hemmingwayâ(TM)s love interest just muddied the water.

Its a bit of a shame really as this franchise have never really recovered since.
