Review of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) by Patrick L — 30 Sep 2011
Superman movie #4. Well, I've heard it's the worst of the 4... And I actually think I disagree. It's definitely not as good as I or II. Even still, III makes this one look bad. Lex Luthor back as the main villain does help. What really suffers here is the effects and how they're executed. This is probably because this movie had the lowest budget of the Superman movies yet. There's definitely some cheesiness involved with the effects, and the script is rather shoddy at times. I didn't really care for the scenes where Clark had to change to Superman and back quickly multiple times - that was kind of a drag. Am I the only one that wasn't sure if Lois knew Superman's real identity or not? It was the same way in III. Very vague.
If they had gotten maybe about $5 million more, the effects probably would've been better. It's unfortunate that the series (at least the ones that Christopher Reeve were involved in) ended like this - but look at it this way - it could've been worse.
